Copy editing is a multi-faceted job. Ultimately, copy editors strive to meet the four "C's" of communication: clarity, coherency, consistency, and correctness. To put it another way, my job is to make you look even greater than you already do. Do you use "-or/-our" and "-ise/-ize" consistently throughout your text? Absolutely. Do you put a hyphen in "right handed"? Only if the modifier falls before the noun. Do your characters all have green eyes? Not under my watch (unless, of course, green-eyed characters are central to your plot!).
My tasks include:
Stylistic editing (clarifying meaning, eliminating jargon, polishing language and other non-mechanical line-by-line editing);
Copy editing (editing for grammar, spelling, punctuation, tense, and other mechanics of style; checking for consistency of mechanics and for internal consistency of facts);
3. Creating a style sheet to track spelling and style choices, setting, character, and timeline details.
My fees fall under the guidelines established by the Society for Editors and Proofreaders (SfEP). To obtain a price quote and a sample of my editing on your work (completed in Word with track changes), please contact me at ChristineStockEditing@gmail.com.
